Rachel Weber Quoted In Sun Times On Possibility of Chicago TIF Districts To Provide Pandemic Aid
Rachel Weber, UIC professor of urban planning and policy, is interviewed in a Chicago Sun-Times article on a potential surplus from $1.79 billion held by Chicago’s tax-increment financing districts that could be a source to help balance the city budget in the wake of the pandemic. Weber says TIF districts are pushed by market demand and “rewards neighborhoods with the capacity to attract market interest.” She also notes that higher property taxes would be a better, but unpopular, solution for equitable distribution of funds. https://bit.ly/3kmhu82 (subscription required)
